When Prisilla Vega had her first child, the way she approached buying products and relating to brands evolved. She began paying more attention to the things she was using more than others — partly because she liked their story and felt connected to the brand. A NASA employee at the time, she decided to not return after maternity leave and instead break out and do her own thing. She went on to launch PR Vega, a boutique PR agency focused on small, women-owned brands, representing clients across beauty, fashion and lifestyle. Through her work, the communications guru has sampled a wide range of products, and has shared with Carte the ones she recommends most — each reflecting her appreciation and support for thoughtfully designed and responsibly made goods.

At Home & On The Road

“We have an Airstream trailer, which is really fun. We originally got it because we love traveling, but didn’t want to schlep car seats and strollers through airports. So we decided to get the Airstream so that we can go places with our two kids. We've gone to a bunch of national parks this year and go on a lot of long weekend getaways. There's so many places from LA that we can get to like the Redwoods, Big Bear, El Capitan.

The cool thing about the trailer is that it teaches you to be really resourceful. When we get home, a lot of stuff feels unnecessary. So we adapted that minimalistic lifestyle from being on the road into our home. We realized what what we really need and use.

A lot of our favorite things are what we transfer a lot back and forth between our trailer and our home. So there's a lot of versatility to the products that we use.

EKOBO BAMBOO DISHWARE

We have these bamboo plates, bowls and cups for kids by Ekobo. They're great because the colors are neutral and they're bamboo, so they can't break. The really simple design stacks easily and they’re really functional. The kids use them at home and we use them on the road too, which is really nice.

Sheltered Co Weighted Blankets

These weighted blankets are the best. When we're camping, the kids go to sleep super early and we sit by the fire or lay down in the trailer and read a book. Literally the second this blanket gets on me, the weight of it just feels so good and I just sink into the weight and go to sleep. It’s always hanging off our couch, but we pull it with us when we go on our trips.

Wiwiurka Children’s FUrniture

Every piece is made to order and it brings the outdoors in because all the pieces are made from all natural wood. One of their signature pieces is a Pikler Triangle climbing structure for open ended play. You could put a board on it, you can slide down it, there are endless things to do. We have a rocker which sits between our couch and the fireplace and our kids climb over it as a pathway. Or, we turn it over and they rock in it. Or, they use it as a countertop. Since it’s natural wood, it’s just a beautiful piece for your kids to play with that doesn’t feel intrusive in your living room.

East Fork Pottery Mugs

My husband and I each have an East Fork pottery mug that we use all the time. We like it because it's sturdy - I've dropped that mug a couple of times and it has not broken. It's good for camping because you need all your things to be sturdy.

GLACIER HOODED KIDS' TOWEL

I love Pendleton’s hooded little kid towels. They're really, really cute. We use them in the bathroom, by the pool and take them camping with us. They're either hanging in our bathroom on hooks or hanging outside the trailer.

Jenni Kayne Cedar Stool

We have a wood stump side table by Jenni Kayne in the house that’s so beautiful, it feels like it brings the outdoors in.

Max Wanger Prints

We have a couple of Max Wanger nature prints framed in the house. We have the Joshua Tree print in the bathroom and the ocean print in the living room. When we’re not out adventuring, we like seeing the scenery indoors. We’re just by nature drawn to the outdoors.

Jenni Kayne Musk Candle

My favorite scent is this Musk candle by Jenni Kayne. It’s just the best thing ever.

Pop Up Greens Planters

I don't have a green thumb, so I have plants that live if you don't water them for a couple of months. Our plants are in these pots by Pop Up Greens. It’s owned by a local artist, she hand paints all the pots. They’re really, really awesome. They're not ceramic, they're made out of a really light fiberglass so they can ship easily. I've been wanting to take one with me on a trip with us - it’s so nice to have something decorative inside the Airstream. Since these are light, they’re perfect for our travels.

Cedar & Moss Alto Sconce

We have Ceder & Moss light fixtures which is one of the only modern things in our bedroom.

In Bed Linens

Our linens are from an Australian brand called In Bed. They're wildly expensive, but they’re really quality bed sheets - I love my sheets!

A lot of what we do is mix old and new. Like, my son and daughter have vintage beds and dressers, but modern storage and rugs. I source vintage from The Rose Bowl Flea Market. I would meet up with my girlfriends and spend hours there. We have a lot of pieces throughout the house from the flea market. And because of that, the tone is a mix of vintage and modern that is carried throughout the house.
