Many are aware of the negative impacts that fast fashion has on our environment and global workforce. Mass produced, low quality goods have flooded the market and are treated as disposable. But these under regulated manufacturing practices and pervasive consumer habits are not exclusive to the garment industry. What about the products we buy for our home? How and where are these items made? What materials are used? How do they treat their workers? Are they built to be used for years to come, or simply serve their purpose for a short period until they are relegated to the trash? When a price seems too good to be true, more often than not, it is.

At Carte, we seek the highest quality goods made by brands that value craftsmanship and longevity, consider environmental impact, and work towards a more sustainable supply chain. While no consumer brand is perfectly sustainable, there are plenty of companies taking important, positive steps to produce their products in a more environmentally friendly way.

By browsing our list of eco-conscious brands, we hope to help you make more sustainable shopping choices. Here’s a highlight of some of our favorite brands that are making product that are better for your home and better for the earth.

PlantPaper

PlantPaper has taught us that one roll of conventional toilet paper made from trees requires 37 gallons of water and a gallon of bleach, formaldehyde and other harsh chemicals to produce! 27,000 trees per day are flushed down the world’s toilets :( That’s bad news for our planet and our bodies. PlantPaper is here to change that. Plant Paper is tree-free and toxin-free, made from fast growing FSC-certified bamboo.
